Ashton wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built around a tree.
When we first got married, we lived in a tiny hamlet called Ashton. At the centre of it stood a green surrounded by beautiful trees; we spent hours, in both the summer and winter, beneath them, newly married and restless with ideas, talking about everything we believed education could be. That tree became a kind of shorthand for us: the belief that from the smallest, most grounded places, something lasting can grow.
That's still what drives us. We're Miki and Gemma Devitt; a husband-and-wife team with decades of combined experience across British independent and state schools as well as elite international institutions in the UAE and China. We have been on the frontlines of outstanding classroom practice, high-quality inclusive education, and strategic leadership. We've sat in classrooms, led departments, advised governing bodies as senior and executive leaders, and sadly seen many brilliant teachers buckle under the weight of administration that has nothing to do with teaching.
We created Ashton Edu because we wanted to give those teachers, and the schools they work in, the tools and thinking that actually make a difference to children. Not more admin. Not more complexity. Solutions that remove pressure, restore wonder, and empower educators to continue to do what they do best: inspire and teach. We believe in the power of educators, the primacy of the classroom, and the great power of automation and reduction of workload.
We work through three distinct pillars: technology consultancy, inclusive education consultancy, and dedicated learning systems — each one built with the learner at its heart. Small team, deep expertise, and an absolute commitment to the work that matters.
